We hope you can join us at the Church annual summer fete being held on Saturday 14th August, 2010 in the lovely gardens of Little Tey Old Rectory. The fete is being opened at 2.00pm by Mr. and Mrs Roger Browining.
Come and enjoy refreshments, swimming for the children, stalls, games and musical entertainment. Stalls include cakes, plants, books, children’s toys and books, greetings cards, bric-a-brac and jewellery. There will also be bowling, skee ball and lots of games for the children. For more information please contact Mrs Freda King on 01206 211056.
All creatures Great Tey and small
On Sunday 25th July, Great Tey will be having its very own nature day. The objective will be to explore the village to find, identify and compile a list of as many different bugs, birds, insects and mammals as possible.
The itinerary is as follows –
9.00 am Moth trapping (Harold fairs playing field) Come and see what moths have been caught in the light traps left out the night before
10.00 am Village walk (starting at the Harold fairs playing field car park) A short walk along footpaths spotting birds and finding bugs as we go. Suitable for all ages.
11.30 am Bug hunting (Harold fairs playing field)
As well as these organised events we would love to see and hear about the birds and bugs you have in your own garden. You’ll be amazed what you can find!
It’ll be a fun day for all the family – young and old – culminating in a family picnic on the Harold Fairs playing field (by the primary school).
We are still hoping to hear from “experts” who can help us identify bees, worms, snails, beetles, flies, bats etc. – or anyone willing to do some homework in advance so they can help on the day. So if you think you can help please get in touch with either Sam Collins (211248) or Neil Spicer (214512).
Local Radio for East Braintree
Leisure fm 107.4fm
will be test transmitting from mid June with our launch date
scheduled for 10th July at 4pm.
We would like to remind parishioners that the bus service should be used wherever practical, because if we do not use the service we will lose it.
We also have a stock of bus pass applications, so please contact the clerk on 01787 224895 if you would like an application form.
I would like to thank all the wonderful people in Great Tey who have sponsored so generously my recent London Marathon run which was done in aid of Lupus UK a charity very close to our hearts. Special thanks is given to Great Tey Women’s Institute for their knitathon, and also to the Great Tey Drop In Centre for their raffle and contribution. The total amount raised including Gift Aid is £ 843.90.
I finished the marathon and have a medal and tee shirt to prove it, but not again!

Last month I put out a request for relief paper round boys/girls. Unfortunately I only had one reply, so I thought I would try again and hope there will be a bit more interest this time. The rounds are not too big, for example, there are 22 houses on the biggest round (the estate), for which the pay is £18.00 week-days and £10.00 at the weekend. The other rounds are smaller and therefore less pay, but all the rounds can easily be completed before you have to catch the school bus. At the moment I only need to know if someone is willing to stand-in for holidays, but there is a chance that a permanent round could come up. Don’t forget that having a paper round on your job C.V. means that you are enterprising (earning money) and reliable (can get up in the morning) and is noted by potential employers. If anyone is interested please ring 01206 210417 or drop their name and address through my letter box at The Old Vicarage, Chappel Road (next door to the Village Hall)

We have a speaker or a quiz and a finds table where detectorists display anything they have found, and a raffle table which is usualy loaded with prizes. The finds liason officer from Colchester Museums is usually at the meeting to identify items found. It is a very social evening and anyone can come along as guest. If you are interested in the history of our area then this would be a good evening for you. If you are interested in taking up the hobby then please come along. You will be made welcome. Also , if anyone has lost a metal item and would like us to search for it, we will come along and do this as a free service. It doesn’t have to be of any value, it could be anything as long as it is metal.
Any farmers or landowners who would like the club to come along and search their land,we would be happy to do this. Any questions, please telephone Penny on 17906302381.
